Reiteration

 Native American Literature

The theme that I believe was emphasized in this week reading is reiteration. In all the interpretations there is a form of reiteration. In ‘’The Night Chant’’ There was so much reiteration that the author wanted the reader to get a better understanding of how important reiteration is in a reading. It was like the author was manifesting the healing, the more he mentioned it the more it comes true and it reads,

''Happily my interior becomes cool.

Happily my eyes regain their power.

Happily my head becomes cool.

Happily my limbs regain their power.

Happily I hear again'' (Greenblatt 2012, line 50).

In this poem the author create emphasis through reiteration with an aim of creating mood and tone, revealing significance of certain information, and obtaining clarity for better knowledge of literary works.

In the story ‘’The Conquest of Mexico’ there was a form of reiteration, that was mentioned when the Mexicans knew that the Spaniards were very powerful. It reads ‘’And he was determining for himself in secret, he determined for himself in secret; he was imagining to himself, he imagined to himself; he was inventing, he invented; he thus was consulting within his heart, he consulted within his heart’’ (Greenblatt 2012, p.2534). This is the main character trying to look within himself to get a better understanding. The character was doing the same thing but wording it differently repeatedly, as if that were the best way to come to terms with what was going on at the time.

In the story. ‘’Yellow Woman’’ There was a form of reiteration, but it did not use words repeatedly. The main character Silva constantly retold things about nature how it looked and how she felt when she described it. The main character repeated different things about nature throughout the story to show how essential nature was in her life. It showed who she was and how nature was a part of her identity.

The element of pop culture would use to help the students understand reiteration would be to have them watch a movie about it. It is easy to have the children read about it but to see it. I believe that would be very interesting for the students. The movie I would show the children is called About Time. It is about a young man that uncovers that he has the gift of being able to travel through time. So, he decides to use it to enhance his love life, reliving the same days over and over to try and change the outcomes. In doing so, he learns that sometimes heartbreak is inevitable, and every action has a subsequent reaction.

The students will needed to know the difference between Repetition and Reiteration here's a link that will teach the students the difference between the two very similar words. Lets get started!

Here's another link that can also help students learn memorable strategies to help them remember their work. Such as vocabulary words and important things for testLearn more here!
